So it has been confirmed, Wyclef Jean himself has announced that he will be running for this years presidential election in Haiti. The singer/rapper/producer tells Time magazine that the recent earthquake and a “draft” from the youth are fueling his presidential run.
According to reports Jean will be making his official announcement to the world next Thursday, August 5th, two days prior to the country’s August 7th deadline. Wyclef has recently told CNN that he filled out all the proper paperwork in order to enter the race, though at the time, was still undecided.
As far as what he has to bring to the table for Haiti, Jean has been at the forefront of the recovery efforts in his homeland, following the tragic earthquake that hit the country last January. “If not for the earthquake, I probably would have waited another 10 years before doing this,” he told reporters. “The quake drove home to me that Haiti can’t wait another 10 years for us to bering it into the 21st century.”
Given the musicians popularity and financial resources, analysts predict he will easily win the election, which is slated for November 28th.
