The long awaited list of the first group of musicians to perform at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert is finally out.
American musicians Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas and John Legend are set to perform at the concert. Alicia Keys and John Legend are huge fans of the African continent and have been doing their part to help the disadvantaged through their humanitarian projects.
The Latin American musicians who will take part in the celebrations are Shakira and Juanes. The African legendary artists who have been selected so far are Malian musicians Amadou-Mariam, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Touré and South African music artists BLK JKS, The Parlotones and Vusi Mahlasela. Musician and African activist Angelique Kidjo will also be part of the concert that will take place, for the first time ever, on African soil.
All proceeds from the concert will benefit the “20 Centres for 2010” which aims to help disadvantaged youth across Africa.
Some concerns have been raised about the musician selection process and whether or not popular African artists will be chosen for this historic event. So far the musicians selected represent a varied group of genres. People all over are looking forward to hearing about the next group of musicians that will be secured for the concert, which takes place on the 10th of June, in South Africa.
