Singer-actor Will Smith will be hosting former South African president Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party in London’s Hyde Park.
Thesun.co.uk reports that the event is being set up by Mandela’s 46664 campaign against AIDS team. The bands to perform at the function include Razorlight, Keane, Queen and singer Annie Lennox. U2, Spice Girls and Sir Paul McCartney have been approached to perform but there is no confirmation.
Organizers are also trying to rope in the controversial rapper Eminem.
A source said: “Will Smith is a big fan of Mandela and wanted to help out. Mandela is so inspirational and so many artistes want to be involved. Razorlight and Keane are definite. We think it will be Mandela’s last official international public appearance, which will make it more special. Eminem’s up for it too. People will be surprised. He’s not someone you’d expect to play a Mandela charity gig.”
Taking place on June 27, this is expected to be one of the biggest concerts of the year, and will coincide with the Glastonbury festival.
