Washington Welcomes Mr. Jones

Lightweight champion Jon Jones traveled to the U.S. capitol, not for a fight instead he spoke to lawmakers regarding the plight of refugees, particularly of those in Afghanistan. The mixed martial artist is known for his tenacity in the ring, however the trip revealed a softer side.

When asked what his motivation was the UFC fighter stated “I think a lot of it stems from being a father and imagining kids with no shelter and no water and no safety. That took its toll to imagine and now that I’m becoming a person of a little influence I think that I have an obligation to reach out and try and get more listeners to try and be aware of what’s going on over there.”

The New York native is following in the footsteps of other philanthropic celebrities like Angelina Jolie by awakening awareness about the United States’ longest war and those affected by it.
