US Charts Review

Welcome back to your weekly fix of the US Charts Review! This week may upset rap lovers and hip-hop junkies, but a rather well known country-pop singer debut that took all – with over a million sales! In other news, no new releases were added to the roster. More urban acts becomes absent in the top 10 and sales continue to drop. How much advice should we take from Miss Swift? Let’s move to the charts and find out.

With 1,044,477 pushed this week, country pop sensation Taylor Swift earns the top spot with new record, “Speak Now.” This releases ranks as Swift’s third album and of course, features lyrical melodies concerning love, romance, and heartbreak. The holds no featured guest, but production is mostly provided by Swift, with a helping hand from country producer Nathan Chapman. Lead single from the album is “Mine,” which also has a video component. The album also features – what was noted as a jab at Kanye West – the track performed live at this year’s MTV VMAs, titled “Innocent.”

A few slots down, Lil Wayne comes in at #4 for “I Am Not a Human Being,” which sold 43,201 for the week. Eminem moved up from previous #8 position to #5 for “Recovery with 37,757 sold. Sadly, these two artists – including Taylor Swift – wrap up the top. Whomp Whomp. Perhaps these two will push more units after this week with the Nicki Minaj and Rihanna collaborations Weezy’s home coming.

Moved up from #17, Trey Songz’s “Passion, Pain & Pleasure” now clocks in at #13 with 22,197 sold. Katy Perry moved up a few spots as well; “Teenage Dream” sold 19,755 into #17. Justin Bieber takes #19 with 19,321 sold for ‘My World 2.0” and Shakira takes a deep fall from #7 to #20 for “Sale El Sol,” which sold 19,239. Bruno Mars dropped four spots into #28 for “Doo-Woops & Hooligans” with 13,358 sold. Maroon 5 move up one slot with 12,659 into #29 for “Hands All Over.”

Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” moved up to #32 with 10,495 sold. Waka Flock Flame did the same for “Flockaveli,” which sold 9,879 into #34. Taylor Swift’s previous effort “Fearless” returns to the charts at #36 with 9,667 sold. Rick Ross and his “Teflon Don” grace the #38 spot with 9,316 sold. Drake follows in last week’s position of #39 for “Thank Me Later,” which pushed 9,108 units.
Fantasia moved up two spots into #42 for “Back to Me,” which sold 8,704. Missing from the charts last week, Kem makes his return with “Intimacy” at #46 with 7,755 sold. John Legend & The Roots dropped 15 spots for “Wake Up!,” earning #47 with 7,623 sold.

This week N.E.R.D. dropped their fourth album, “Nothing.” Check back next week to see if Taylor Swift will remain in her throne, and if our fellow urban acts can make a comeback.
