US Charts Review

It’s about time someone broke Eminem’s winning streak and who else would it be other than a pop contender Katy Perry and her new effort, “Teenage Dreams.” Numbers continue become dreadful, giving anybody selling over 25,000 records a spot in the top 10. In other news, Drake finally hits his platinum sale mark and a comeback album from Fantasia drops as well. The charts also welcome a new EP from Usher.

As Katy Perry takes the top spot, Fantasia follows with comeback project, “Back to Me,” selling 122,056 into the #2 position. This is Fantasia’s third studio album, which follows her 2006 self-titled album. Originally set for an earlier 2010 release date, J Records pushed the album back once single sales weren’t up to par. The setback actually collided with Fantasia’s personal issues, stirring up not so positive publicity personal wise, but more attention towards single “Bittersweet.” Features on the album are slim, but Cee-Lo seems to make the cut for a track titled “Gone.” Other than that, Fantasia worked with a lot of different producers ranging amongst “Bittersweet” producer Chuck Harmony, Rico Love and more.

Though Eminem was knocked down by two new releases, Slim Shady still stays on top among the other chart veterans as he chimes into #3 for “Recovery,” selling 98,689 this week. Usher takes #4 for his “Raymond v. Raymond” deluxe edition EP, “Versus,” which sold 48,370. The EP is a follow-up to Usher’s sixth studio album “Raymond v. Raymond.” It contains 7 new tracks, a re-produced remix of “Somebody To Love,” and “There Goes My Baby.” The EP also includes Billboard hit “Hot Tottie” and international hit, “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love.”

Kem dropped from his debuting #2 position to this week’s #6, selling 28,847 for “Intimacy.” Justin Bieber stays at #8 for “My World 2.0” which sold 26,733. Bieber’s mentor Usher returns to the charts again for “Raymond v. Raymond,” making a sweet comeback from #30 to #14 with 21,070 sold for the album. Rick Ross drops another five spots for “Teflon Don,” selling 20,563 into #16. Drake follows at #17 with “Thank Me Later,” selling 20,130 into his platinum sales mark. Drake now sits at a total of approximately 1,013,700 copies sold.

Lady Gaga drops from #16 to #22 for “The Fame,” selling 17,118. Ke$ha only drops two spots for “Animal,” selling 14,666 into #26. Black Eyed Peas clock in at #34 for “The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)” with 10,085 sold.

B.o.B. takes #35 with 9,938 sold for “Adventures of Bobby Ray” as Big Boi follows with “Sir Lucious Left Foot,” which sold 9,712 into #36. Gaga returns at #37 for “The Fame Monster” EP, which sold 9,282. Enrique Iglesias’ “Euphoria” moved up a spot into #41 and sold 8,954. Gaga returns for her third and last time for “The Remix,” landing at #23 with 8,865. Bieber comes back around with “My World” at #45 with 8,122 sold. Bun B closes the charts at #50 this week, selling 7,577 by the grip of his teeth.

Lyfe Jennings released a new album this week. Return next week to see of the charts can hold down a spot for him. Also, come back to see if Eminem can regain his crown at #1.
