Another slow week on the US urban charts, with only one new release making it to the Top 10…
R&B crooner Mario makes an interesting comeback with his fourth studio album, “D.N.A.” Led by the success of the smash single “Break Up” featuring Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, the album makes a nice landing in the Top 10 at #9 with a decent 32,000 copies sold.
Mario is best known for his hit singles “Just A Friend” and “Let Me Love You,” along with his appearance in the movie “Step Up.” His second album “Turning Point” released in 2004 went platinum, while his third effort only sold 331,000 copies in the US.
Will this new album be another chart-topper for the young R&B singer? Let’s go Mario!
Jay-Z seems decided to hold firmly onto his position: the “Blueprint III” gains two spots to reach the #3 position with 55,000 copies sold. The success of the hit single “Empire State Of Mind” featuring Alicia Keys keeps the momentum strong for Hova’s last release, with 1,112,000 albums sold.
This week most impressive progression is from the Black Eyed Peas who moved 41,000 units for a surprising comeback in the Top 10! The group jumps 18 spots to reach #5 thanks to the release of their new single “Meet Me Halfway.” The album “The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)” boasts a total of 1,235,000 albums.
Not a good week for Mariah Carey… The diva drops 4 spots to #10, with 31,000 units moved. After three weeks in stores, “Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel” slowly reaches 260,000 copies, making one of Mimi’s weakest impact on the charts.
On the other hand, Whitney Houston’s “I Look To You” maintains its course towards the platinum bar, sliding only 2 spots to finish at #17. The legendary R&B act pushes 23,000 copies of the LP for its eighth week of availability, the total sales reaching 755,000 copies.
Young Money’s Drake maintains his #30 spot with a solid 18,000 copies sold of the mixtape “So Far Gone.” The project already moved 178,000 units.
Still in the Top 50, R&B sensation Trey Songz keeps his #41 position with 14,000 copies sold of “Ready.” The latest effort of the young artist totalizes 270,000 albums sold.
The soulful singer Maxwell loses 2 spots and finishes at #44. With 826,000 copies of his album “BLACKSummer’snight” sold so far, platinum status is within reach!
Kid Cudi’s album continues its descent in the abyss of the charts… Ending at #50 with only 12,000 copies sold, it looks like “Man On The Moon” might not make it to the Top 50 next week…
