The Hip Hop Grub Spot™ opened in Miami Gardens (Florida) with a grand turnout on Saturday January 26, 2008. The first of its kind, the Hip Hop Grub Spot™ combines the hip hop industry and the fast food restaurant industry in an innovative and landmark effort to increase minority franchise ownership, and organically develop entrepreneurship and investments in economically disadvantaged communities.
To this end, the restaurant is run by students – giving them real hands-on experience in running a business. In addition to student executive/entrepreneur training, the food and entertainment draw hip hop youth in a safe and entertaining environment.
The franchise incorporates in-store video gaming provided by Microsoft XBOX with retail books, magazines, DVDs, mix-tapes and apparel. And of course – come here to get fast, fresh, healthy sandwiches, wraps, smoothies and energy drinks!
The Hiop Hop Grub Spot™ was realized through initiatives executed by hip hop artist Rick Ross (Slip N’Slide/Def Jam), Rick Ross Charities, Inc., football athlete Frank Gore’s Scholarship foundation, Save the Arts Youth Foundation, and Portrait of Empowerment, Inc.
