Shyne

New York rapper Shyne is expected to be released from prison today, after serving 8 years behind bars.

The MC, whose real name is Jamal Barrow, was sentenced in June 2001 after a high-profile shooting case at a Manhattan club, involving his former Bad Boy boss Diddy and his girlfriend at the time, Jennifer Lopez.

Shortly after the incident, the rapper released his hit album “Shyne,” including the smash single “Bad Boy” featuring Barrington Levy. Despite being then incarcerated, he released his sophomore album in 2004, “Godfather Buried Alive.”

In the last years, Shyne was rumored to work on deals with various labels including Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. However, it seems that these rumors were untrue and the rapper may actually still be under control of Bad Boy because of contractual obligations.

His former employer and Bad Boy CEO, Sean “Diddy” Combs, acknowledged having spoken to Shyne and expressed his joy at the prospect of his upcoming release, calling it “a blessing that [Shyne’s] coming home.”
