Los Angeles Laker Ron Artest recently filed paperwork to change his name to ‘Metta WorldPeace’ according to his former publicist and court documents.
When asked why he wanted to change his name the New York native cited education and his recent work helping to reform prison inmates, stating “it’s definitely an inspiration to some kids, and it definitely inspirational to the guys I’m trying to help rehabilitate.”
‘Metta’, a Buddhist virtue of kindness, goes well with the former bad boy’s change in behavior. Once infamous for fighting a fan the small forward has embraced eastern values by donating $600,000 from his raffled championship ring towards mental health help and now incarceration rehabilitation.
