Rihanna’s “bad girl” image, which is particularly present in her recent “S&M” video, has landed her in hot water, yet again. Eleven countries have banned the song and video since its release, and international radio stations, like UK’s BBC Radio 1, have refused to spin the song before 7 p.m. due to its sexually explicit nature.
Overall, the video is not causing the same stir in the US as it is abroad. Rumors concerning the re-editing of the video, which includes masochism scenes, have been dispelled stateside.
Rihanna responded to the reactions sparked by “S&M” via her Twitter page a couple days ago, saying that her latest video is no more controversial than the one she made for her track “Umbrella”, in 2007, in which she appeared completely naked, covered in silver paint.
TRACE Urban is available in many of the countries that banned the video, but you can still watch it online…
