R&B singer Rihanna has become the new face of fashion house Gucci – as part of a charity campaign.

The Umbrella hitmaker has been named as the spokeswoman for the company’s new project with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) – which will see a variety of limited edition products sold to raise money for good causes. Twenty-five percent of sales will benefit the children’s charity.

The star will appear in the fashion house’s Tattoo Heart campaign, premiering in December. Rihanna will be photographed in a series of special edition print ads with UNICEF items.

Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini, says she chose the songstress because of her “strong personality”.

“When we decided to dedicate a full ad campaign, more than just creating products, to really come out and show our commitment to UNICEF, I felt a musician and a beautiful woman was the perfect icon for this campaign.”

The singer also supports her own charity The Believe Foundation, which she set up in 2006.
