R&B singer R. Kelly is currently in a Chicago hospital, recovering from emergency throat surgery that will leave him “laid up indefinitely,” according to his rep.
“Kelly had visited a throat specialist earlier in the day complaining of severe throat pain,” his rep said in a press release. “Following a preliminary exam, he was rushed to Northwestern Memorial for the procedure. It is not known when the multi-platinum recording star, who just completed the U.S. leg of his worldwide ‘Love Letter’ Tour, will be able to resume performing.”
Due to the surgery, Kellz, 44, who wrapped up his U.S. tour on July 14, had to cancel a high-profile performance scheduled for Friday, July 22, at the Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica that also featured Nicki Minaj and Mya.
Although Kelly’s condition seems serious, the singer took to Twitter to let his fans know that they will be hearing his sultry vocals again.
“I’d like to thank everybody for their love, concern and support,” he tweeted. “I WILL BE BACK!”
