Veteran rapper Q-Tip is set to pen a book for Ballentine imprint in which he will reveal the ins and outs of the entertainment business as well as his thoughts on fashion, love and morality. The former front man of a “A Tribe Called Quest” will release his book “Industry Rules” in harmony with the 20th anniversary of A Tribe Called Quest‘s first album, “People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.” The idea behind the title of the book was inspired by an old track untitled “Industry rule #4080 / Record company people are shady.”

During the 90’s the 4080 line was popular in Hip-Hop circles and was also the name of a short live popular rap magazine.

According to Q-Tip writing the book was important, because it allowed him to be more literate as an artist. “I’m always looking for ways to do something cool, different, and both light and introspective at the same time,” he said. And “with so many influences, like Duke Ellington’s writing, or the music played by radio DJs in the 70’s, or just what you see hanging out on Linden Blvd, there’s a lot to say, and I look forward to reaching a bunch of colorful dudes and gals with the project.”

“Industry Rule” will be released in 2010.
