Pete Rock Enraged over Lupe Fiasco Single

On May 21 Lupe Fiasco released “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free),” the first single from his fourth album, “Food & Liquor II.”

The song sampled Tom Scott’s “Today,” the same track which was used by Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s for the classic “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.OY.).”

Shortly after the songs release the legendary producer Pete Rock, who created the song in honor of a deceased friend, took to Twitter writing “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made outta anguish and pain…When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one! Man I’m a lupe fan and everything but TROY was my homie man. I think about him and Hev every f-cking day!!!! Smh.”

There was no response from Lupe, however he did link the “T.R.O.Y.” music video on Twitter.
