This date, March 9th, marks the 12th anniversary of rapper Notorious B.I.G’s murder. An unknown assailant killed Wallace in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles in 1997.
His double-disc set “Life After Death”, released fifteen days later, was a #1 hit in the U.S album charts. Since his death three albums have been released. And because of his success and influence on music, he has become a cultural icon and a true urban legend. So much that in January 2009, the biographical film “Notorious”, about Wallace and his life was released in theatres. Bad Boy Records released a soundtrack album to the film on January 13; the album contains hit singles of B.I.G. such as “Hypnotize”, “Juicy”, and “Warning” as well as rarities.
Every year a lot of fans and artists celebrate the anniversary of the passing of the legendary Notorious B.I.G. 2009 is no different. Several mixtapes were released as a tribute to Biggie. Although, there does not seem to be a memorial this year, in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, where he grew up.
