Bubba Smith was found dead Wednesday, August 3 in his Los Angeles home. A coroner’s reported is currently being carried out, however authorities suspect the death was due to natural causes.
The 66 year-old played for the Oakland Raiders, Houston Oilers, and won the 1971 Super Bowl with the Baltimore Colts, before retiring in 1976 due to a knee injury. The Texan then appeared in numerous Miller Lite beer commercials, but withdrew because of the negative effects beer drinkers sustained. The former NFL defensive end went on to portray parts in several TV shows, then became a fixture as Moses Hightower in six of the “Police Academy” comedies.
Smith has no known next of kin, his brother, also an NFL star, died in 1999.
