It’s been a long two years since we last heard from rapper Nelly. But this fall, Nelly makes his big return after the disappointing 2008 album “Brass Knuckles.” Nelly’s upcoming album “Nelly 5.0” has already been in the works since 2009 and he recently released two singles, “Just a Dream” and “Tippin’ in Da Club.”
The single “Just a Dream” debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. This marks his first top 10 hit since his song “Grillz” made the top 100 in 2006. “Dream” made more 250,000 downloads in the U.S, which is a lot more than his last album according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Nelly told Billboard that his next album will be “more melodic” than his previous albums. “It has the power, energy and diversity that my fans have allowed me to [draw from] over the years, including pop, rhythmic, urban, and even country” he said. The album, which comes out November 16, will feature collaborations with Diddy and the late Notorious B.I.G., Akon, Chris Brown, T.I., Janet Jackson, Usher, Sean Paul, Young Jeezy, Jamie Foxx, Plies, and T-Pain…it seems like he may be using other artists to help stage his comeback.
His single “Dream” has already gained the attention of some artists, especially country singer Taylor Swift. She tweeted “I’m so in love with that new Nelly song.” That should definitely boost Nelly’s confidence on this upcoming album. Her tweet had gained the attention of Nelly’s teenage daughter. Looks like Taylor Swift can add Nelly’s kids to her long list of fans. We all can’t wait for Nelly to come back into the music scene.
