For Black Girls Rule, discover each day a different personality from a talented, creative and innovative woman of African descent.
At 23 years old, MC Nadia Rose was working in a betting shop in her native south London in 2014 when she realized something was up. She always knew music was close to her heart, growing up around her DJ dad’s soundsystem and writing her own rhymes from the age of 13so she made the bold move of handing in her resignation, and embarking on a new life in the world of U.K. rap.
Armed with a calm and effortless flow, it’s Nadia Rose’s bubbly confidence that finishes off each and every line. Many have compared Nadia’s style to Little Simz, but when you take a closer listen, it’s clear they’re on completely different waves. We witnessed Rose charm herself through the grey areas of grime and rap last year: tracks like “BOOM!” saw her take on a cheeky, Jme-style play with words, while her remix of Etta Bond’s “Seen And Never Heard” was more heartfelt and honest. As she continues to hold on to her unapologetic roots and articulate free spirit, expect this Rose to blossom even more in 2017.
