It’s another dark day for soccer. After the announcement of Eric Abidal’s liver transplant last week, Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch on Saturday after suffering a heart attack.
Paramedics immediately stepped in and tried to resuscitate him. The Bolton player‘s heart only started beating on its own upon arrival at a London hospital. The last official statement stated that he was in a « critical condition ».
The world of soccer paid tribute to Muamba this weekend. After scoring a goal, Gary Cahill, the Chelsea player and former Muamba team mate, revealed a shirt that read « Pray 4 Muamba ». Real Madrid players also had messages for the Bolton player and for Barcelona’s Eric Abidal. They wore shirts that read « Get well soon Muamba » and « Be brave Abidal » in Spanish. A thoughtful initiative given the rivalry between Barcelona and Real players.
TRACE Sports wishes Fabrice Muamba a speedy recovery and Eric Abidal all the best for his upcoming operation.
