Mike Posner

Mike Posner has gone from dorm room nobody to pop sensation in less than 2 years, all while staying true to himself.

After releasing his first mixtape, “A Matter of Time” with Don Cannon and Dj Benzi from his college dorm room, it was only a matter of time till the singer/producer would gain global exposure. That exposure came, a lot quicker than he could have ever imagined, though. As only a junior at the University of Duke, he was offered a major record deal by multiple labels, including Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Posner ended up signing with J Records, but instead of dropping out of school completely, the singer finished up his time in college and graduated with 2 degrees, one in business and the other in sociology. “I did a good job at building my career, and at the same time my mom’s happy.”

Now at 22, Mike Posner is set to release his debut album “31 Minutes to Takeoff” this August. The album will be a blend of pop, r&b, and hip-hop, and will feature collaborations with Travis Barker and Bruno Mars. It will also feature his hit synth-pop single “Cooler Than Me” which topped off at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart a couple weeks back.

With comparisons from Justin Timberlake to Robin Thicke, Mike Posner is ready to show the world that he has his own kind of swagger, and he thinks the listeners will appreciate what he has to offer. “I want to make songs that will bring people together,” he told Billboard. “My music doesn’t sound like anyone else’s, and it’s important for me that it stays that way. If I regurgitate what others are doing, then there’s no point in me living this lifestyle. I would probably quit.”
