The King of Pop’s estate and Cirque du Soleil are teaming up to collaborate on a series of projects based on the music and life of Michael Jackson. The venture, which includes the creation, development, production and promotion of tours and shows, is the next big step in cementing Michael’s legacy.
A US tour, which will featuring the circus-art that Cirque du Soleil is famous for, is expected to debut in late fall 2011. A permanent Las Vegas show will follow in 2012. Special lifestyle projects, including a Las Vegas nightclub, are also in development.
The collaboration for this project does not come out of nowhere. John Branca, co-executor of Jackson’s estate, explained the King of Pop’s long-running fascination with Cirque du Soleil’s signature style of music, dance and theatrical spectacle. “We went to the very first Cirque du Soleil tent show opening in Santa Monica [in the late 80’s]… Michael was dazzled, and we went backstage after the show because he wanted to meet all the performers. It was a very passionate evening,” Branca told the “Los Angeles Times.”
Even though he has passed on, Michael Jackson will be part of the Las Vegas Show, right alongside Cirque du Soleil performers, through the use of 3D technology or holograms. A name for the show has not yet been revealed, although “Man in the House of Mirrors” is rumored as a possible title.
