The queen of hip-hop soul will soon be adding something else to her incredible résumé! Indeed, Mary J. should be heading for college this fall at Howard University in Washington D.C. “The city of New York gave me my high school diploma …and now Howard University has accepted me,” she said on ABC.
At 39 year-old, the singer once again shows her strong and determined personality by making such a decision. Mary didn’t give any details concerning her status as a future college student, we don’t know if she will study full-time, take classes online or what major she will choose. “We encourage Ms. Blige to continue her studies and welcome her consideration of Howard University in the future,” the school said. “We are happy to work with Ms. Blige on completing the formal process for admission.”
Mary J. definitely likes being busy. While her new album “Stronger With Each Tear” received positive critical responses, the singer also started a fashion line with French stylist and friend Catherine Malandrino. The ready-to-wear collection was introduced in June at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and its benefits will go to Blige’s charity FFAWN (The Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now).
Her interest in getting a college degree definitely embodies the empowerment of women that the singer has always praised in her music. We just hope Mary won’t be too busy with the homework and will stay in the game!
