Mariah’s part in the upcoming “Precious” movie showcases a new side of the diva’s acting skills, and could very well give a broader dimension to her on-screen career.
In “Precious,” Mariah Carey plays a social worker taking a special interest in Precious, a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life of physical and emotional abuse. Mimi showcases her talent by turning down the glam and offering a very real version of herself, without any makeup or wig, as opposed to the diva character we are used to seeing her playing. Mariah shares the screen with entertainer Mo’Nique and rock star Lenny Kravitz in this Oprah-produced flick, based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire.
The platinum-selling singer is not the first one trying to make it to the big screen. Luckily her turbulent career is on a revival path thanks to the successful release of “Confessions Of An Imperfect Angel”, which debuted at #3 on the charts. The buzz is already building up for the 2009 Sundance Award-winning movie, mainly thanks to the (surprisingly) good performance delivered by MC. Long gone is the “Glitter” era when Mariah was nominated for a Razzie Award…
“Precious” will open in selected theater in the US on November 6th, see the trailer below.
