MADOSINI AND MSAKI HONOURED FOR THEIR CULTURAL CONTRIBUTION TO MUSIC WITH NEW MURAL AND PLAYLIST THIS WOMEN’S MONTH

Johannesburg, Thursday, 19 August 2021

Artist services company, Platoon, honours Madosini and Msaki for their cultural contribution to music with a new mural and playlist this Women’s Month.

Known as national treasures in their own rights, Madosini and Masaki have been visually captured by renowned Johannesburg street-artist, Dbongz, to bring to life the Platoon Women’s Month mural, located in Fox Street, Maboneng, Johannesburg.

The musical icons, both hailing from the Eastern Cape, represent two unique generations of women in music who have been unapologetic about their heritage and the infusion of South African culture into their craft.

At the mural unveiling which took place on South Africa Women’s Day, Madosini shared “It makes me feel immortal more than anything… I’ve always felt like the underdog and this gesture makes my spirit feel elated.”

Msaki commented “It’s an honour to be next to Madosini in this way. It’s also a treat to hear the music she listens to in her own home and to co-curate a playlist with her is so special. It’s added another dimension to the already rich conversation she has so generously initiated with the youth.”

As part of Platoon’s Women’s Month celebration, Madosini, known for playing traditional instruments such as the uhadi and mhrubhe musical bows, and Msaki, known for her honest ballads and arresting activist anthems, also cover Platoon’s dedicated Apple Music playlist entitled “Heritage, Healing & Hope”.

Enjoy music from Madosini and Msaki, as well as from the likes of Mahlathini, The Mahotella Queens, Izingane Zoma, Phuzekhemisi, Simphiwe Dana, Thandiswa Mazwai, Ami Faku, Azana and more by streaming or downloading the playlist here: https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/pl.f59b5db06a95464caacb853afe3643ce
