Mahendra Singh Dhoni auctioned his World Cup winning bat for charity this week. The £100,000 piece of wood hit the final point in Mumbai this April, rendering a six wicket success against rival Sri Lanka.
According to the Indian captain’s charity, the cash is consigned to the creation of a sports school, committed to “improving children’s accessibility to cricket by building a sports academy where children will be able to develop their talents across a whole range of disciplines.”
The philanthropic benevolence is a further boost to the cricketer’s world wide popularity. Manoj Tiwari , an Indian actor, has already pledged to build a temple honoring Dhoni and fellow batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
