Lil Wayne Cancels Concert Performances over ‘Starships’ Comment

Nicki Minaj and many other members of the Young Money crew, who planned to perform at Hot 97’s Summer Jam music festival, abruptly canceled their scheduled shows due to a comment made by venue host Peter Rosenberg.

On June 2 before Minaj arrived, Rosenberg, a morning show host for the New York City radio station Hot 97, remarked “I know there are some chicks here waiting to sing ‘Starships’ later, I’m not talking to y’all right now, f-ck that bullsh-t…I’m here to talk about real Hip-Hop sh-t.”

Soon after, the head of YMCMB, Lil Wayne, tweeted “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”

Nicki Minaj added “Wow. U niggaz just fucked up history. But the President has spoken. #YMCMB ” She later noted “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against wayne’s word. What he says, goes. “

Minaj thanked other cities’ Summer Jam shows, writing “I’d like to thank the staff @ philly & boston summer jams for treating their guests w/respect! Had a blast.”
