Lil’ Mama

Tiny rapper Lil Mama crashed Jay-Z’s highlight appearance during the 2009 MTV Music Awards on Sunday, September 13.

A few minutes into the Jigga man performance of “Empire State of Mind” with R&B singer Alicia Keys, Lil Mama climbed on stage to pose beside both performers.

The rapper who was clearly not happy about the pint size presence on the stage during his performance was seen grimacing while maintaining his composure.

He was even heard saying to the intruder, “You’re T-Paining right now,” before attempting to shy her away into the background. It was not the first time that Jay Z was interrupted in his performance by another artist. Rapper T-Pain crashed a stage when Jay-Z was performing “D.O.A.” at a New York radio concert this summer.

“I did not mean any disrespect towards Jay-Z or Alicia Keys. I admire them and look up to them as role models,” said Lil Mama after the incident.
“‘Empire State of Mind’ had my emotions running high. In that moment, I came onstage to celebrate my two icons singing about N.Y.”

But with an evening high on emotions surrounding the Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s incident, no one seemed to care about it. Lil’ Mama’s appearance only added another twist to the night from another artist looking to get her 15 minutes of fame.

Shortly after this onstage burst, celebrities and fans started using twitter to share their views and jokes about Lil Mama crashing the stage. In a matter of hours, #lilmamais (“Lil Mama Is…”) became one of the top trending topics, with many personalities such as Fabolous making fun of the young girl’s inappropriate action.

Lil Mama is best known for a role as a judge on “America’s Best Dance Crew” and her hit single “Lip Gloss.”
