A week ago, in Vancouver, K’naan and over 50 Canadian artists secretly came together to record K’naan’s song “Wavin Flag.” The remix of the song as a fundraiser for Haiti was the idea of Canadian producer Bob Ezrin. The group of artists who recorded “Wavin Flag” has been dubbed the ‘Young Artists for Haiti.’
Amongst the group, are music artists such as Nelly Furtado, Drake, Kardinal Offishal, Justin BieberFefe Dobson, Emily Haines and Avril Lavigne. Proceeds from the track will go to Free The Children, War Child Canada and World Vision.
In 1985 Canadian artists recorded a charity single titled “Tears are not enough” and the producers wanted to recreate a song like it for Haiti. The song took 9 days to wrap up and the music video was filmed in Canada at the Warehouse Studio, which was founded by Bryan Adams.
This is the third version of K’naan’s “Wavin Flag” song, to be released. The first version is on K’naan’s album “Troubadour” and the second version is the joyous remix that is the theme song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. It seems as if ‘Wavin Flag’ is proving to be an epic song that many people can relate to as it reflects the universal theme of hope and humanity.
