GOOD Music’s newest sensation, rapper Kid Cudi, is steadily winning fans over without basing his identity on money, cars and women. With a growing spotlight, the 25-year-old Ohio native forgoes the diamonds and rims to give listeners insight into the inner workings of the lonely stoner.
This past year has been one of professional success for the “Day ‘N’ Nite” rapper, who, along with a major label debut onto the hip-hop scene, is slated to star in an upcoming HBO series with actor Mark Wahlberg. Cudi, who toured this summer with rapper Asher Roth on The Great Hangover Tour, also co-wrote four songs on Kanye West’s “808s & Heartbreak.”
Released on indie label Fool’s Gold in 2008, “Day N Nite” (a spacey track which explores Cudi’s quest for peace and enlightenment) slowly gained momentum, eventually landing at number 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart this year.
Cudi, who was signed to Kayne West’s GOOD Music label in late 2008, recently released a video for his second single “Make Her Say (Poke Her Face).” The track samples Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” and features Mr. West himself alongside Common as all three proclaim their supposed abilities to please the ladies by allowing the ladies to please them.
Unique, Kid Cudi deserves the curious attention he’s been getting as of late. His album, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day” has been delayed and is slated for release in September 2009.
