Joey Barton speaks out against homophobia

Joey Barton is always one for sensational statements. He confirmed his reputation during an interview broadcast on British channel BBC3. The bad boy addressed an issue that is taboo in the world of football: homosexuality.

The QPR captain revealed that he was concerned with the issue because one of his uncles is gay. He also made the following prediction: « there is no doubt in my mind that in the next ten years we have an openly gay footballer. My only fear is that certain managers and individuals within the game will discriminate against people ».

Among the 5,000 professional players in Britain, not one is openly gay.
