Joey Barton just can’t hold his tongue! Fresh from a nightclub brawl in Liverpool earlier this month, the bad boy of English football couldn’t resist drawing attention to himself yet again by lashing out at the English squad. On his Twitter account, the Queens Park Rangers player started out by taking a swipe at the inclusion of Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson: “If Henderson got in, any englishman not currently in the squad has to feel aggrieved. Yes, i wish i was there but im not…”
Jordan Henderson was called up by England manager Roy Hodgson as a replacement for Frank Lampard. Barton, who plays the same position as Henderson, had trouble hiding his resentment. He then set his sights on Henderson’s club team mates: “Everyones thinking it ill say it. Liverpool have horrific season and have 6 players in our euro squad. What chance do we have”
In the face of growing controversy, Barton tried to moderate his outbursts on the social networking site, adding “I really hope England do well and win it, I really do. All am saying is a don’t think we will and it pisses me off…”
Perhaps not the best way of defusing the situation, nor the ideal motivational speech!
