American soul and R&B singer-songwriter, poet and actress Jill Scott has just released her new album “The Light Of The Sun” a few days ago, on June 21. According to industry sources, the album is set to earn her a #1 position on the Billboard 200 album chart as soon as next week. The lead single, “So In Love,” is working its way up the 10 spot on the charts as we speak. The new album is the first on her Blues Babe Records. Her old label, Hidden Beach, will put out an album of unreleased material, “Just Before the Dawn: Jill Scott From the Vault, Vol.1,” later this summer. Jill Scott came onto the music scene in 2000 with her debut album “Who Is Jill Scott.” Since then, the Philadelphia native has won 3 Grammys, sold 5 million records worldwide, and starred in a number of movies and TV shows, from the Tyler Perry film ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ to the HBO series The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. Jill Scott will bring “The Light of the Sun,” on the road this summer with the Jill Scott Summer Block Party, which kicks off July 28 in New York and visits 18 cities in North America. Before Scott kicks off her headlining tour, the singer will join Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz and Kanye West at the 2011 Essence Music Festival, which invades New Orleans’ Louisiana Superdome from July 1-3.
