Jay-Z + Spike Lee

This year is the 10th year anniversary of Jay-Z’s Roccawear clothing line an urban fashion label created in 1999 by Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and then partner Damon Dash. To commemorate the event the Brooklyn entrepreneur has teamed up with legendary filmmaker Spike Lee in order to create an ad that will celebrate the brand’s 10-year existence. Lee who is well – known for directing classics movies like “Malcolm X” and “Do the Right Thing” is celebrating another high point of Jay-z’ career

Of the 10 year milestone Jay-Z said, “It’s a 10-year anniversary for Roccawear this year,” [and] “we’re shooting the commercial. The commercial is about Roccawear, what we meant to the culture. The aspiration to maintain and be around for 10 years.”

The collaboration was confirmed last week by celebrity stylist June Ambrose who said via tweeter, “Spike Lee is one of the most important directors of our time. He gave us a voice and perspective in “Do the Right Thing” that touched on racial relations in Brooklyn and all these movies we grew up on that were so important to our growth. To work with him on a commercial, I think we stole one. That’s how I feel. We’re more than honored. That’s Spike Lee.”

A release date for the ad has not been confirmed.

In related news Jay-Z’s much anticipated album “The Blueprint 3” will be released on September 11.
