On August 5, the New York Cosmos will make history as the first American team to play at Old Trafford. Brian McBride and Fabio Cannavaro are competing with the Cosmos in a friendly against Manchester United, the match is mid-fielder Paul Scholes final performance.
The historic game is somewhat ironic considering that the Pele presided over Cosmos is not a member of the MLS. However the historic club may become the 20th team in the North American league, the team’s vice-president, Terry Bryne, is negotiating an entrance bid near $70 million. The Cosmos are considering four locations throughout New York City, and are looking to increase dismal game attendance by agitating a rivalry with the New Jersey based Red Bulls.
