Haiti’s hit charity single “Everybody Hurts”

“Everybody Hurts,” a charity single for Haiti’s earthquake victims which was released on February 8th to help raise money for the people of Haiti, topped the UK Charts on Monday, February 15 with sales of more than 453,000 copies in its first week.

The single is a cover of the R.E.M. classic “Everybody Hurts” and was recorded in both London and Los Angeles. The song was produced by British music producer Simon Cowell and features R&B singers Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis as well as pop artist Kylie Minogue.

According to the official UK Charts Company, “Everybody Hurts” has scored the biggest first week sales of any charity track since 2000.

Proceeds from the song will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and The Sun newspaper’s Helping Haiti campaign.
