We thought that Eric Abidal was out of danger when he played the Champions League final with Barcelona in May after undergoing an operation to remove a liver tumour one month before. No such luck. His club has just announced that he will have to undergo a liver transplant in coming days.
According to Barcelona, an operation had already been considered last year given the « advanced stage of his disease ». Eric Abidal shared the news with his team mates. His coach, Pep Guardiola, declared that the defender would be sorely missed and hopes that this new test will improve cohesion within the Catalan group for the rest of the season.
