Eminem & Royce Da 5’9”

The Bad Meets Evil rappers have brought Bruno Mars in on “Lighters,” the third taste off the rap duo’s “Hell: The Sequel” album. Unexpected to say the least.

In “I’m On Everything,” Eminem & Royce Da 5’9″ rap about ‘syrup, painkillers, cigarettes, weed, Hennessey, vodka’ with Mike Epps. Now Bruno Mars softens up the song and gives it similar dynamics to Rihanna’s feature on Eminem’s hit track, “Love the Way You Lie.” Previous tracks like the album’s first single “Fast Lane” were grittier, with big bass beats and snappier delivery.

With Lil Wayne releasing the slow jam “How to Love” as his third “Tha Carter IV” single and now this track from Bad Meets Evil, hip-hop is branching out into a softer sub-genre, one that was never associated with the ‘f— the police’ mentality of earlier days. However, with this sudden change of direction, “Bad Meets Evil” certainly demands attention and shows potential, or at least raises the bar for that highly anticipated joint album from Kanye West and Jay-Z. “Hell: The Sequel” is due in the US on June 14.
