“The worst thing about crossing a line is when you don’t know you already have…” The first words to appear in Drake’s “Find Your Love” video, are a call to what is to come. The video, released on May 11, was shot in Kingston, Jamaica under the direction of Anthony Mandler.
In Drake’s latest video, the Canadian rapper/singer/actor appears as a man blindly in love and willing to go through anything for one more chance to see the girl he loves. Reggae artist Mavado plays the head gangster that Drake has to face for the love of a native beauty, played by Drake’s real-life rumored main squeeze Maliah Michel.
The romantic but tough video was partially shot in “Gully Side,” Mavado’s birthplace. Even if the voice of the Kingston dancehall superstar does not appear on the track, he stated in an interview that he and Drake are: “really planning on doing songs together,” adding that the Toronto-native artist was his “dog.” Overall, the video is reminiscent of the Jamaican club scenes in “Belly,” the 1998, Hype Williams directed cult classic film starring Nas, DMX and a countless other hip-hoppers.
Drake will drop “Thank Me Later,” his debut album, on June 15. Features include The-Dream, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z, amongst others. The supposedly 15-track album is one of the most anticipated albums of the year, as Young Money member Drake is one of the most sought after acts in the urban music world.
