Drake

Toronto rapper/singer Drake shot his first video for the infectious single, “Best I Ever Had” this weekend in Brooklyn. The video, directed by Kanye West, features a variety of cameos including Trey Songz, Fabolous and the Young Money crew.

Drake initially said he wanted the video to be a feel good venture for women. “I want women to feel special when they watch,” the lyricist said, explaining that he hoped female fans might think “I wish that was me,” or “I know that feeling.” However, once Kanye added his creativity to the mix, Drake says he realized “I was taking myself way too serious and trying to do some, like, epic sort-of-intimate video … that would have been cool, but the song is too fun for that.”

The video, set in a high-school gym, is said to have a basketball theme. Although Drake portrayed a basketball star on “Degrassi,” the video will not have a “Degrassi” premise.

The “Best I Ever Had” visual will be Drake’s first official video, though he did finance a video shoot in 2007 for “Replacement Girl,” a track that featured Trey Songz.
