Though anticipation for his next project is higher than ever, Dr. Dre does not seem likely to drop “Detox” anytime this year. However, the Doctor dropped hints at promising guest appearances…
“Detox,” which was originally set to drop in 2004, boasts an impressive cast of hip hop heavyweights. Earlier this year songs were leaked from Dre’s recording sessions featuring Nas and R. Kelly. Also reaching out to southern artists, Dr. Dre reportedly tagged T.I., Lil Wayne and Drake among the emcees to be ghostwriting for the album. In addition, Dre told MTV News that Jay-Z had been in the studio writing and that he hopes to get him to perform on the record.
But would the project be complete without a west coast rappers reunion? Compton MC The Game recently tweeted a picture of himself with Snoop Dogg and Dre in the studio together, allegedly working on “Detox!” The Game fell out with Dre after his feud with 50 Cent and G-Unit escalated in 2006, and as a result, he was forced to leave the legendary producer’s Aftermath Entertainment label. The three had not worked together since their 2005 collaboration on The Game’s “The Documentary” debut LP, but it seems that Dre managed to overcome the obstacles to reunite his protégés on “Detox.”
With so many artists already on board, why does Dre keep delaying the release of the much-anticipated album? A video started circulating last week, showing the doctor talking about the project: he announced that the actual release would take place sometime next year and that a “lack of motivation” was the main reason it was taking so long… While promoting his new “Beats by Dr. Dre” headphones and “HP Notebook” laptop line, Dre might indeed lack time to focus on “Detox!”
The Doc confirmed “Detox” wouldn’t hit stores before 2010. Developing story…
