DMX is in trouble with the law again, this time facing tax issues. Recently reports have hit the internet detailing the rapper owed the US governement $1.5 million in both state and federal taxes.
Earlier the year the MC, born Earl Simmons, was released from an Arizona jail in May after serving more than three months on fraud, drug and animal-cruelty charges. X was originally sentenced to serve 90 days in the infamous “Tent City” jail in Maricopa County, Arizona, but following an alleged altercation with a corrections officer in February his sentence was extended.
In 1998 DMX released its classic debut album, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot,” which sold over four million copies. But for the past few years and after six studio albums, the rapper has been struggling to recapture his original success. Along with producer Swizz Beatz and rappers Jadakiss and Eve, DMX used to be a major actor of the Ruff Ryders movement, which rose to fame in the late 90’s with hits like “Ruff Ryders Anthem.”
In related news, DMX was slated to be opposed to Mixed Martial Arts champion Eric Martinez for an anticipated fight that would have taken place in Alabama on December 12th. But fearing for his safety, he chose to pull out of the fight. Sources claimed that DMX wanted the fight fixed and the promoter Thunder Promotions refused his request… Finally, one-time chart topping rapper Coolio will be replacing him.
At press time they were no comments from the rapper.
