The who’s who of sports was in London on February 6 for the Laureus World Sports Awards, a ceremony, which honours the greatest sportspeople of the year. The winners were chosen by the members of the Laureus Academy, 47 of the greatest sporting legends of all time. And here is the list of winners: the athlete of 2011 is Novak Djokovic. Thanks to his Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open wins, the Serbian is the new king of tennis.
Winners in other categories were: Vivian Cheruiyot, the Kenyan double world 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres champion, FC Barcelona, Oscar Pistorius, the first athlete with a disability to win a medal at an able bodied world championship, Rory McIllroy, Darren Clarke and Kelly Slater. Rai for his charity work and Bobby Charlton for his incredible career also won awards.
