On October 14th, Colin Powell, Former US Secretary of State climbed on stage of the Royal Albert Hall (London), with the Nigerian group Olu Maintain, and surprised audiences when, with his suit buttoned up, he took the microphone to sing lyrics and dance with them on their song Yahoozee at the Africa Rising festival, celebrating the continent’s culture.
Then Colin Powell talked about his black heritage “I stand before you as an African American,” he said.
“People have said to me you became Secretary of State of the USA (so) is it still necessary to say that you are an African American or that you are black? And I say yes, so that we can remind our children” he continued.
Nduka Obaigbena, the organiser of Africa Rising, said: « I never thought I would see Colin Powell dance Yahoozee, he showed that common touch. »
