Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London home last Saturday, July 23. Police have denoted her departure as “unexplained,” however investigations are ongoing and an autopsy report may be released shortly. Although authorities have noted no narcotics on the premises, some suspect that the death was due to her well-known struggle with drugs and alcohol.
The British singer, 27, famed for 2006’s “Back to Black,” canceled her last European tour due to a disastrous debut performance. Booed by her audience, an intoxicated Winehouse had a hard time singing and left the stage several times.
Hundreds of fans gathered outside her home, leaving a tribute of pictures, flowers, cigarettes, and vodka.
Fellow artists lamented the loss on Twitter:
Rihanna: Dear God have mercy! I am sick about this right now! I am genuinely heartbroken about this.
Usher: I’m so sad to hear the horrible news of Amy Winehouse’s death. I’m so happy I knew you Amy. Rest well. Gone too soon. We’ll miss you!
Nicki Minaj: Please tell me Amy Winehouse didn’t die. Is this some sick joke?
Keri Hilson: Amy Winehouse…so tragic. I loved her. She inspired me! I kept hoping she’d find a happier place than her self destructive state…damn.
Katy Perry: RIP Amy Winehouse. May she finally find peace.
“Back to Black,” “Frank” and several singles saw resurgences in sales shortly after Amy’s demise was documented. The Daily Mail declared that Winehouse had “a lot of material” recorded for her third album, a posthumous release is likely pending.
