The stamp over the “D.O.B.” album cover on his Myspace page makes it clear. The third album from Jamaican dancehall artist Busy Signal is “coming soon.” After being pushed back from its original April release date, “D.O.B.” is now scheduled to drop on May 25.
Although “D.O.B.” has not garnered great commercial buzz so far, the album is highly anticipated by reggae fans, as very few famous dancehall artists are putting out new material right now. Still, listening to song previews proves Busy’s music is not lacking in quality. “Picante” makes you bounce on your chair with its up-tempo dancehall vibe. The first video for the album, a combination of two songs, has also been released. “Nightshift/One More Night,” features Busy’s take on the classic Phil Collins song “Just One More Night.” The reggae remake is a pleasant surprise and will no doubt get you in the groove.
As of late, Busy Signal has been living up to his name. The busy artist was in Montreal, Canada, for two concerts in May and will hit stage in Jamaica, from May 23 to May 28. In addition to various collaborations, he was also featured on the song “Hands Up,” from French Caribbean artist Admiral T’s new album “Instinct Admiral” (released in April).
Signed to independent reggae label VP Records, Busy Signal is one of the artists leading the contemporary dancehall movement, since 2006. The big hits “Tic Toc” and “Unknown Number,” from his album “Loaded” (2008) are great reflections of the movement.
