An Australian scientist recently named a horse fly found in 1981 after Beyoncé.
Bryan Lessard, a researcher at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, said the bug, commonly called by some Australians the “gold bum fly,” was “pretty bootylicious.” Found the same year as Bey’s birth, Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae will remain “in the nature history books forever,” according to the 24-year-old.
Lessard added that horse flies are “vital pollinators of native plants, not just in Australia, but all over the world,” he added “It’s extremely important to name all the undescribed species so we can measure our human impact on the environment and hopefully protect it for future generations to enjoy.”
