Bruno Mars

Known for the sensual chorus of B.o.B’s summer hit “Nothin’ on You,” Bruno Mars is a talented and original artist definitely ready to break through. You might have heard his name everywhere lately, now it’s time to know about the artist! As you danced on the sulfurous “Right Round” by Flo Rida and sing along K’naan’s “Wavin Flag” during the World Cup, did you know Bruno Mars co-wrote both of those songs?

This twenty-four year-old is indeed more than just a sexy voice, since he can also add songwriter and music producer to his impressive résumé. Born to the name Peter Hernandez and raised in Hawai, the artist is from Filipino and Puerto Rican descents. Bruno Mars’ was introduced to many different styles such as reggae, pop-rock, hip hop, RnB, in a family of seven children where music always had a special place. It seemed nothing but natural for the artist to pursue a music career in Los Angeles after he graduated from high school.

Before flying solo, Bruno Mars worked for many artists such as Brandy, Adam Levine, Sean Kingston or the Sugababes. He eventually released his first EP titled “Better If You Don’t Understand,” in May 2010. The record, available on iTunes, contains four songs and is a promising foretaste of Bruno Mars debut album set to be released later this year.

“Better If You Don’t Understand” is in line with the singer’s many influences. The opening and poetic track “Somewhere in Brooklyn” has that Indie rock sounds, while the ballad “Count on Me” is more folk-soul. “Talking to the Moon” is a piano love song in which Bruno reveals his emotional yet powerful voice. The outstanding track remains “The Other Side” featuring Cee-Lo and B.o.B, for which a video has just been released.

Bruno Mars embodies a new generation of artists following the example of Lupe Fiasco, or his friend B.o.B, whose talent and energy are too wide to be confined to one style. So stay tuned and make sure you check out his new video because it’s definitely not the last time you hear about Bruno Mars…
