It seems like hip hop veteran Big Boi of Outkast is going solo for now. After a year – long battle of legal issues and intense negotiation that would finally give him the opportunity to work with his former mentor L.A. Reid, the rapper announced enthusiastically via Twitter that he inked a deal to switch from Jive Records to Def Jam Records.
On Friday March 19 the rapper wrote, “The ink is on the paper!!! ‘Breaking News!!!!’ It’s official! Big Boi signs solo album deal with Def Jam!!!”
According to reports, the one album deal will enable the rapper to release his long anticipated project “Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty,” which was originally slated for a 2008 release. It will feature his own productions as well as productions by Organized Noize, Andre 3000, Scott Storch and Lil Jon.
Now, with his new project on the way, Big Boi confirmed that he shot videos for every track on the album. “I shot like five videos so far, for the past three weeks. I’ve been editing those videos…it’s coming man, it’s coming. I know everybody’s been waiting and I’m anxious to give it to them.”
Unlike “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below,” Big Boi album as well as Andre 3000’s anticipated solo project will be sold separately and once both records have been released, the group will start working on their Outkast album.
“Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty,” will hit stores in May 2010.
