David Beckham will not be playing for Great Britain’s Olympic football squad as previously expected.
In an announcement on June 28, the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder stated “Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me…So I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad…Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold.”
The teams three over-age players will likely be be Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards. The official roster will be announced by coach Stuart Pearce next week.
